Stubborn Pride

I stitched the cracks with whispered grace,

Each wound forgiven, face to face.

I carried hope where trust had died,

And wore my love like stubborn pride.

But mercy, endless, takes its toll,

It chips away at heart and soul.

Each pardon dulled the flame I knew,

Until my heart grew cold, withdrew.

Love does not vanish in one blow,

It fades with every "yes, I will let it go."

And somewhere in that gentle art,

I forgave you right out of my heart.
